These will vary according to their ages but may be along the lines of hopping on one foot, brushing their teeth, etc. It could be almost anything. Now ask them if they think they are able to toss their egg into the basket. They should be close enough that it is easy. Continue making it more difficult such as making them take 5 giant steps away from the basket and think of things that are possible for them to do by themselves, but may be more difficult. Have them try again to toss their eggs into the basket.
Talk about why it was harder this time. By now you get the idea; this can be repeated how ever many times you would like varying the distance and difficulty each time. Finally, have them so far away from the basket that it is impossible for them to throw their egg and make it into the basket. They'll want to try, but after they have realized there is no way they can, get them to the point of telling you that it is impossible!
Read to them the story of Jesus and the rich young ruler from Matthew Save verse 26 until after discussion. Discuss with them how people wanted to know how to have eternal life and make it to Heaven. Tell them, "The people listened to Jesus and decided it was impossible for them just like it seems impossible for you to toss your egg into the basket now because it is so far away!
Point out to the kids that because they are so far away from the basket, they can't do it by themselves just like because of our sin, we are too far away from being perfect and able to get to heaven by our own efforts.
You pick the basket up now and bring the basket to them allowing them to place their egg inside. Explain that Jesus left His home in Heaven and came to earth to live a perfect, sinless life as a man, died on the cross, and was raised from the dead by the power of God to make away for us to be saved from sin and hell.
He brought the Kingdom of God to us when we were too far away, and when we believe and trust Him by accepting His gift of grace and placing our lives in His hands, He makes the impossible possible!
