Lower the car jack so the vehicle is supported by the jack stands and the tires are at least one inch off the ground. Position the car jack so that it is under the rear axle. Raise the axle up so that the shocks are not under pressure. Find and loosen the lower shock bolt for one of the shocks with the socket wrench. Continue to loosen the bolt until you can remove it.

Find and loosen the upper shock bolt with the socket wrench. Pull out the old shock and then set the new shock in place. Insert the upper shock bolt into the bracket and shock bushing. Tighten the nut on the bolt by hand. Adjust the level of the shock to align the lower bolt hole. Insert the shock bolt into the hole and then hand tighten the nut on the bolt.
